
Mark Mooney
Biography
Mark A. Mooney serves as Parkside’s Denver Bank Market Leader, bringing more than 25 years of financial services experience and a proven track record of building high-performing teams, deepening client relationships, and leading markets through meaningful growth and transformation. A strategic, relationship-driven banking executive, Mark embodies Parkside’s core values in the way he leads teams, engages the community, and supports clients throughout the Denver region.
Before joining Parkside, Mark served as Market President for First Interstate Bank, overseeing a $1.3 billion commercial and retail organization (including loans and deposits) across Denver and Colorado Springs. There, he guided a major shift from a CRE-focused strategy to a more diversified C&I model, improving credit quality, increasing non-interest income from 8% to 13% of total revenue, and strengthening the overall financial performance of the market.
Previously, Mark spent a decade as Group President at Great Western Bank, where he led commercial and retail banking operations, earned recognition as the bank’s Top Market President for three consecutive years, and consistently delivered strong growth—including establishing 12– 15 new client relationships each year and generating $50 million in loan growth in 2019. His earlier leadership roles at BBVA Compass/BBVA USA further cemented his reputation for developing high-performing teams, expanding market presence, and delivering record profitability across multiple regions.
In his role at Parkside, Mark leads all aspects of the Denver market, including cultivating top talent, driving business development across the metro area, overseeing financial performance, and strengthening Parkside’s position as a trusted partner to privately held businesses and families. Mark is driven by the opportunity to shape a market where clients, employees, and the broader community all thrive.
Mark holds an MBA in Finance from Auburn University, an M.S. in Physical Chemistry from Vanderbilt University, and a B.S. in Chemistry from Auburn University. A graduate of Leadership Denver, he remains active in the regional business community, previously engaging with groups such as the Colorado Bankers Association and the Denver Chamber of Commerce.
